How to become a Validation Superhero

Validation:
Validation is an important part of any relationship, including the relationship you have with yourself. Validation is what makes you feel heard and respected. It’s crucial that you learn to both validate others and yourself. Validation means to confirm, to verify, to authenticate. Validation can be verbal or nonverbal. It helps you deepen relationships. When validating others, you make them feel heard and respected. When validating yourself, you provide that same comfort on your own. When a person confides in you, they are not usually looking for advice or problem-solving unless they specifically ask for it. Rather, they are looking for validation. If you are not used to validating, here are some suggestions. There is no greater way to set a person at ease.

Josh Child
As a qualified social worker in the community mental health space, I employ critical theories and reflective practice to support clients who experience severe and complex mental illness. Alongside my clinical practice, I have lived experience as a carer that has helped foster the skills required to validate, navigate, and advocate within the mental health system. My professional interests include group facilitation, suicide prevention, and intersections between the built environment and mental health.

Phoebe Kendall
Hi my name is Phoebe Kendall, I'm 24 and have been diagnosed with BPD when I was 21 years old after years of mental health struggles.
I enjoy nature and being outside going for walks, swimming, and exploring.
I'd like to spend my life helping people in need in all different situations such as homelessness, DV, mental health, troubled youths, and many other situations.

Cheryl Pickering
Cheryl Pickering is a director, creative producer, voice teacher and singer, with separate tertiary qualifications in psychology, English literature and vocal pedagogy, and a PhD exploring ethics, authenticity and aesthetics in the creation of socio-political multi-art form work.
Alongside her arts practice, Cheryl works as a process-oriented coach for individuals and organisations. Her experience as a mother of two children with BPD lead to Cheryl undertaking the Family Connections course, which proved such a pivotal learning experience that Cheryl trained as an FC leader and now co-leads courses in South Australia.
